Charleston Cayenne is a vibrant and flavorful pepper known for its exceptional heat and distinctive taste. Ideal for those who appreciate a spicy kick, this pepper is a must-grow for any pepper enthusiast. This pepper variety is often referred to as Carolina Cayenne, but it’s different. The Carolina Cayenne was developed by Clemson University and the USDA in 1986; the Charleston Cayenne was developed by the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, in 1981, and the Charleston Cayenne is hotter than the Carolina Cayenne.

This versatile pepper can elevate a variety of dishes, from classic sauces to marinades, and even in rubs for meats. The Charleston Cayenne adds not only heat but also depth, enhancing the overall flavor profile of your meals.

Tip: The normal foliage color of this variety is yellowish green. Please make a note to not mistake this characteristic during the grow season as a symptom of nitrogen deficiency.

Start the seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last frost date. When transplanting outdoors, ensure they are given plenty of sunlight and warm temperatures.
