Our Growing Practice and Salable Seeds
Q: Do you grow or sell GMO products?
A: We are a non-GMO farm and don't grow any GMO plants. We specialize in heirloom and hybrid (cross-created pepper and tomato) varieties.
Q: Is Rebec Valley Farm LLC a USDA Certified Organic Farm?
A: No. While we only use organic products and pest control techniques, we are not a USDA Certified Organic Farm.
Q: Do you purchase bulk seeds to sell from an outside vendor?
A: No. All the seeds that we sell come from plants that we've grown on our farm before we offer them to the public.
Q: What is an heirloom variety?
A: An heirloom variety refers to a type of plant that has been cultivated and passed down through generations (most argue 50 years or more) without genetic modification. These plants are treasured for their rich flavors, unique colors, and historical significance. Heirloom varieties include fruits, vegetables, and flowers, each with distinct characteristics that differentiate them from commercial hybrids.
Q: What is a hybrid variety?
A: A hybrid variety refers to a plant that is the result of crossbreeding two different species or cultivars. This process aims to enhance desirable traits such as yield and appearance characteristics, among others.
Q: Are our hybrid seeds genetically modified?
A: No. Our hybrid seeds are the result of a controlled cross-breeding process between two different parent plant species with desirable traits. This method aims to produce offspring with improved characteristics, such as higher yields or different appearance characteristics.
While hybrid seeds are often confused with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), they are fundamentally different. Hybridization is a natural process, whereas genetic modification involves altering the plant's DNA in a laboratory setting. Therefore, most hybrid seeds are not genetically modified.
Q: What does open-pollinated mean?
A: Open-pollinated refers to how plant pollination occurs through natural processes, such as insects, wind, water, etc., where the plants cross-pollinate with other plants of the same species. These seeds will yield offspring that are true to type, meaning they resemble the parent plants consistently in traits, such as flavor, size, and color.
Q: What are the benefits of open-pollinated seeds?
A: Choosing open-pollinated seeds provides multiple advantages for gardeners. For example, they are easier to save and replant season after season, promoting sustainability. Additionally, these plants typically exhibit greater adaptability to local growing conditions, enhancing your garden's overall resilience.
Q: Are the seeds that you sell only from an open-pollinated grow environment, or do you also offer seeds from isolated plants as well?
A: The seeds we offer are from plants grown in an open-pollinated environment unless otherwise specified as isolated in the product description. Since everything we grow is mostly open-pollinated, there is a chance of accidental cross-pollination; we cannot guarantee 100% purity on any of our varieties.
Orders
Q: I forgot something or would like to swap items. May I change my order before it's shipped?
A: Once you place an order, the order can’t be changed to add, subtract, or exchange for different items after you have authorized payment.
If your order is still marked as "processing," email us immediately, and we can cancel and refund the order before it has been shipped. Then you can place a new, updated order.
If your order has been marked as "shipped," any cancellation or refund request will be viewed as a return and will be processed in accordance with our refund and return policy.
Our refund and return policy can be found here.
Shipping Address Typo
Q: I accidently made a typo in the shipping address I provided with my order, what do I do?
A: If you've accidently made a typo in your shipping address, please email us immediately, and we can make the appropriate address correction if the order has not been shipped. The shipping correction request must come from the email account on file that placed the order.
